The Ballads of Memory
We worked on topics such as our relationship with old age, the years of transition from communism to capitalism, life struggles, our relationship with memory and sound. We play all the invisible stories on fragile, outdated devices: cassette tape players, tape recorders, vinyl record players.
Ionela Pop is 69 years old, she is retired, and she comes to the stage to tell her own story, as well as those of her friends and acquaintances. Thus, an alternative history, that official discourse ignores, is reconstructed in front of us. From inside a society that increasingly neglects older people, we can hear the stories of Ionela’s generation, relating to work, social and personal life, and the influence of the tough years of transition after the 1989 Revolution in Romania.
